Good news and bad news for employees

From 1 February 2012 the maximum employment tribunal award in “normal” unfair dismissal cases has gone up from £80,400 to £85,200.  Whilst this is good news for employee claimants, bad news is just around the corner.  From April this year, the period for qualifying for unfair dismissal rights goes up from 1 year to 2 years, which should significantly reduce the number of employment claims.  Talk about giving with the one hand and taking away with the other!
